One week until UNH horse trials
We lucked out with the weather yesterday afternoon, mild with a light breeze when we were supposed to get afternoon showers. Perfect for going out to do trot and gallop sets! Too bad the black flies also decided to get out for some action this week. Hello Swat!
Clover seems to have recovered from her marish mood of last week; her attitude was much better and she was stepping underneath herself again. She was also much more cooperative with water and mud obstacles, and even obligingly galloped on when I asked her to. Even her wind was better. Please let this pleasant mare mood last til after next Sunday's stadium phase …
UNH spring horse trials are just about one week away! My goals, like most other Novice riders', are to score in the low 30's for dressage, go clean cross country (no surprise run outs at easy fences!) and leave rails up in stadium. Oh, and overcome competition nerves and ride like my inner Hun. We'll see how fate kicks me in the ass this time!
I'm getting new Ariats for the occasion (okay, for the rest of my natural riding life)—I put a pair of field boots with heavenly zippers on layway last weekend, and my erstwhile hubby has offered to pick them up for me during his long weekend. My old Marlborough field boots are going to the cobblers to have the linings repaired and gussets installed.
