Applehurst
Did the Applehurst pace with Christine and Mico yesterday. It wasn't what I expected, it was more of a long, meandering trail ride. Which was perfect, because neither me or Clover is fit enough to trot/canter/gallop 12-15 miles.
The first part of the course had the x-c fences, the last 2/3rds was trail. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to do it; we walked mostly, but got in some jumping and cantering in the fields and hills. It was perfect weather wise, and the bugs weren't too bad (the Cut Heal Zonk It bug spray works great! It ought to, it's 50% permethrin.
It was like being a kid again riding through the town forests for hours on end. We let the horses drink from a stream, then found a small pond and waded them in for a bit. Clover had her ears pricked most of the way, it was obvious she preferred the slower pace on a long rein.
Really, what can be better than a quiet reliable horse that you can do anything with, a sunny day's ride with a good buddy, and your own truck and trailer to get around with! Besides a million dollars, I mean.
